In short
Let's go deeper
Drum roll, people: Apple Intelligence it's officially here!
Today Apple released the very first set of functions of the new artificial intelligence system on iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1 and macOS Sequoia 15.1, and no, it's not your usual AI.
We are talking about an evolution that promises to transform the way we interact with devices, putting privacy and personalization first.
What is Apple Intelligence?
Simply put, it's Apple's version of generative artificial intelligence, integrated with advanced writing tools, a Siri finally “awake” and able to understand complex requests, and a Photo app that does everything except serve you coffee (but they're working on it, I bet). All this with privacy protection that Apple describes as 'revolutionary'.
Key Apple Intelligence features available now
- Writing instruments: Integrated throughout the system, these tools allow you to rewrite, correct, and summarize texts wherever you're typing, whether in Mail, Messages, Notes, or even in third-party apps. And if you want a more formal or friendly text, the AI modifies it according to the tone you prefer.
- Enhanced Siri: Finally Siri seems to have had a double cup of coffee. Now it's more natural and able to understand commands in succession, even when you get stuck. And the gem? Siri can answer questions about Apple devices and give detailed instructions, such as recording your screen or sharing your Wi-Fi password. It's like having an Apple technician in your pocket, but without the blue shirt.
- Super smart photo app: Now you can search for anything in your photos or videos simply by describing it. Like: “The photo of Marco laughing at the party” or “That time I was at the beach.” In addition, the Clean Up function removes unwanted elements from images without altering the authenticity of the shot.
- Priority emails and notifications: With Apple Intelligence, urgent emails (such as an invitation to a business lunch) end up at the top of the inbox, and you can even read a summary without opening the message. The notifications? Only the ones that really matter will interrupt you, thanks to the new 'Less interruptions' mode.
- Audio recording and transcription: In the Notes and Phone apps, you can record, transcribe, and summarize parts of audio. Useful for summarizing those mileage calls that no one wants to hear all over again.
Availability in Italy and Europe: when can we use Apple Intelligence?
Before you rush to update your iPhone or iPad, a clarification for those who live in Europe: not everything is immediately available. Apple Intelligence is already active on macOS Sequoia 15.1 for Macs in Italy and other countries of the European Union, but with a little trick — it works only if the system is set to American English. So yes, you can do some tests on your Mac, but to have everything at hand on the iPhone and iPad we'll have to wait a little longer.
Key date: April 2025
Save this date: April 2025. It will be then that Apple Intelligence will make its official debut on iPhone and iPad in the EU, including Italy. At that point, all the main functions — from advanced writing tools to Genmoji, to the integration of ChatGPT with Siri — will finally be available. Apple is committed to offering a complete experience, without limitations, allowing us to exploit the full potential of AI in pure Apple style.
Language support: finally in Italian
Not only will we have Apple Intelligence on our devices, but we can use it in Italian! In April, together with the European rollout, Apple planned an update that will add Italian and other main languages. This means that Siri and other AI tools will be able to respond to our requests in our language, making the experience even more natural and accessible.
But that's not all: December and April will bring other news
Apple has already promised that Other functions will arrive in December. Among these, there will be:
- Genmoji: customize your emojis like never before.
- Image Playground: a sort of playground to create witty images.
- Batchetta pictures: draw a circle and let the AI transform your sketch into a beautiful image.
